Special report on the Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade Sayyedah Zaynab(A). Transcript follows:
The Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade is one of the popular fronts that was formed before a few months to protect different areas within Damascus and its suburbs; specifically, the shrine of Sayyedah Zaynab(A).
The fighters of this brigade say that their function is limited to defending the holy sites, and that they are not concerned with the internal fighting.
Labbayk Ya Rasul Allah(S) (We Are Here For You Oh Messenger Of Allah!)!
The developments within Syria and the flow of thousands of foreign fighters who have entered the Syrian borders to undertake Jihad have necessitated the formation of popular fronts under the broad heading of National Defence.
One of the outfits within this front is the Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade, which has assumed the responsibility of protecting the holy sites in the Sayyedah Zaynab(A) area in the suburbs of Damascus and other locations.
The Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade was formed to protect the sacred sites, which they [the extremists] are targeting. They have attacked these holy sites with mortar shells, including the shrine of Sayyedah Zaynab(A) which was attacked by these shells but they did not explode.
The Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade is a popular front that is diverse and well-organised, made up of youths from various Islamic sects. They have enlisted to protect the shrine of Sayyida Zaynab, the grand-daughter of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s), from extremist elements who have targeted the shrine with mortar shells, as they have previously done against mosques and churches,
In the Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade, we are from all the various sects. Let them not think that the Brigade is solely from the Shi'i sect. This [sacred place] is for the whole of Islam; Sayyedah Zaynab(A) is the grand-daughter of the Holy Prophet(S)
Labbayk Ya Zaynab(A) (We Are Here For You Oh Zaynab(A))!
All these various extremists - be they Afghans, Libyans, Tunisians or from other countries - target the shrine of Sayyedah Zaynab(A) with the objective of destroying Syria. But neither can they nor those even greater than them [be able to] destroy Syria.
The battle of these fighters is restricted to combatting against militant extremists who have come from outside Syria. The number of fighters within this Brigade is constantly increasing and they are receiving intense training in urban guerrilla warfare and usage of weapons.
They have come to Syria to violate the holy sites and to instigate a sectarian war that they themselves have contrived. But in Syria we do not have a sectarian crisis. They came into the country and recruited people with sick minds; brainwashed them and sold to them this [notion of] sectarian war.
We thank Allah that we have been able to organise ourselves. And we shall continue to improve and remain vigilant. We shall not allow them to create this sectarian war in Syria, by the Grace of the Almighty.
As long as one acknowledges that this Brigade was formed to protect the shrine of Sayyedah Zaynab(A), one can join the ranks of the Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade regardless of their sect.
The fighters of the Abul Fadhl al-Abbas Brigade receive instructions and training limited to the defensive function of protecting the holy sites, and do not engage in any other combat roles.
